Pegasus Plasterers recently plastered the ceilings of the kitchen of this house in Finchley, North London.
The customers in this case had decided to change the arrangement of the spot lights in their kitchen. As you can see from the pictures the ceiling had a little damage as well as the holes left behind from the old spot lights. The paint above the cooker had also peeled away from the ceiling.
Firstly the original holes needed to be patched over and new holes cut into the ceiling. We then applied scrim/fibre tape on all the edges where the paint had come away because moisture can make the edges lift and more paint can peel away.
The ceiling was then sealed with 2 coats of PVA adhesive. Two coats are used when going over cracked or flaking paintwork to ensure a good bonding surface for the plaster. The first is left to dry and whilst the second is still tacky we then apply the first of two coats of British gypsum multi finish plaster and trowel it to a smooth finish ready for decorating.
