Skimming
Essentially, skimming is a top-coat of plaster which is used to cover-up superficial blemishes and restore the surface of a wall or ceiling to a smooth and level finish. In the photos below you can see before and after pictures showing some examples of our skimming projects on a previously Artexed ceiling, adhesive covered walls and in making good damaged walls. We also fitted the coving in readiness for the decorators. As you can tell the finished painted surfaces look excellent.

Most commonly we skim walls and ceilings in the following circumstances:
- Superficial damage to interior walls and ceilings: Where they have been chipped and scuffed over the years or there have been some repairs or alterations.
- During redecorating your home: After the debatable joy and arduous task of peeling off the wallpaper; which has taken some of the plaster off the walls or to cover the residue of glue on the walls.
- Tiling: If you have taken tiles off the wall and it has caused damage to the surface, or if you need to achieve a smooth surface to apply them to.
- To cover Artex
In all cases there is a only certain amount you can achieve using a filler and rubbing the walls down. Even after your great efforts the surface may still look uneven. This is when a skimming the surface comes into its own, because it gives you a consistent, clean and smooth surface to which you can then apply paint, wallpaper or tiles to. Skimming is ideal if you are intending to paint the surfaces of your walls, as it is an effective way of achieving smooth contours on your walls and hiding minor blemishes that would become more noticeable and even exaggerated by covering them with paint.
